ANAEROBIC BELLY DIGESTERS

These specially designed pots were of fundamental importance to the alchemists. Known as a digester, it is where the decaying materials of the putrefaction and fermentation phases were mixed and allowed to sit at room temperature. Eventually the pot would begin to generate its own heat in a mysterious process known as the "secret fire." The top of the pot has a glazed inner water seal that kept air from entering the vessel to promote anaerobic (no oxygen) decay.
